WINTER - Keep Well Guide
These are held during the surgery opening hours. For further information please refer to the notice in the reception area.
The antenatal clinic is held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 1.30pm and our midwife is in attendance at these times.
A full range of family planning services (except condoms) is available and the clinic is held every Wednesday afternoon. Cervical smears and postnatal checks are also carried out at this clinic. These services are also available from all the doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners during their normal surgery.
Despite the fact that we can supply most forms of contraception, there may be occasions when people do not take precautions during sexual intercourse. This can cause worry until the next period. Occasionally, when a period doesnt come you can be faced with the dilemma of whether to request an abortion or continue with an unplanned pregnancy.
The morning after pill can, in fact, be used up to 72 hours (three days) after unprotected sex, although the sooner it is taken the more effective it is. Because of this, in addition to the practice offering the morning after pill, it is also available from local chemists free of charge. Please contact them for further details. There is also an alternative, depending on when your last period was or if you cannot take the pill. If this happens to you please come to the surgery and see the doctor or the nurse on the next working day. We can help.
Clinics are held each week by specially trained nurses assisted by doctors to care for and advise patients suffering from diabetes, asthma and COPD.
Dr Ahmed does private drivers' medicals.
Well person checks are carried out by our practice nurses and appointments can be made without seeing a doctor. We aim to promote better health and screen for certain conditions.
After initial consultation with a doctor some routine minor surgical procedures including joint injections, cautery, incisions, excisions etc, can be arranged. Such procedures are performed in the surgery. A special wart clinic is held on a regular basis.
We have a trained counsellor available at the surgery. Referrals are usually made by a doctor or nurse.
All children are encouraged to be immunised at the surgery and the first injections are offered at the postnatal clinic. Regular clinics are held on Monday and Wednesday mornings for this purpose.
Developmental checks are offered to all our children by arrangement with our health visitor.
Cancer of the cervix is easily treated and it is important that all females between the age of 25 and 65 have regular smear tests to detect early signs of the disease.
Appointments for smears can be made with the practice nurse at any time.
Advice on achieving and maintaining your target weight, together with advice on diet generally, is available by appointment with our practice nurses. A dietician is available on the first and third Wednesday of each month for advice following a referral from a doctor or nurse.
Advice on menopausal problems is available by appointment with our practice nurse.
Advice and support in stopping smoking is available by appointment with a trained practice nurse at our smoking cessation clinic. Patients can also contact the smoking cessation clinic by telephoning 0800 952 4433 or visiting www.timetoquit.co.uk

Please let the surgery know immediately when you arrive home with your new baby so that care by the doctor, midwife and health visitor team can be arranged without delay. Could you also please send the childs registration form to the surgery as soon as possible after the birth has been registered. At eight weeks after delivery a full postnatal check at the surgery is offered to all mothers. Cervical cytology and contraception advice is offered at this clinic where your child will also receive their first immunisation.
Deals with foot problems particularly in the elderly and diabetics.
Physiotherapy advice and management services are available from in house physiotherapists following a doctor's referral.
You may need immunisations, the majority of which are available in the surgery.
Please contact reception, preferably at least six weeks before travel, to arrange an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss what you need. Appointments for immunisation against tetanus can be arranged at any time.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
Information about countries and vaccinations required can be found on the links below:
It is important to make the initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travelto allow the vaccines to work.

To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.
Some services are not available on the NHS eg private sick notes, endorsements of private insurance claims, private medical examinations etc. For these services, there is a charge. To avoid embarrassment, please enquire about fees for these services before requesting that they be carried out.MEDICAL CERTIFICATES
Private letters of referral to consultants are, of course, free of charge.
These cannot usually be completed in surgery time, but can be left and collected, as arranged with the doctor or receptionist.
Please request a special appointment for medicals, eg elderly driver, taxi driver, HGV, PSV, sports, pre-employment etc, as these require a longer time allocation. There may be a fee payable.
These are issued only after the patient has seen the doctor and it is agreed the patient is not fit for work.
To ensure you do not lose any benefits and the current certificate does not expire please make an appointment to see the doctor when your sick note is due.
The surgery is also a DNA testing centre.
